Pastor Hill: Morning’s coming

The image of the rising sun is very symbolic of how God is working His plan in our world today.

God did not visit us as a candle, which might cheer our darkness but could never change it into day. God sent His Son to bring us out of darkness and into the light. He has come as the Dayspring from on high to visit us.

The world, spiritually, is in darkness. There is much to be desired. Hovering over all our blessings are the constants of natural life, which include pain, sickness, temptations, death, and many other trials. Sometimes it seems that when we have made it through the night and the day has brought to us happiness once again the darkness descends. Dear Christian, all hope is not lost for Jesus has come to bring the light. In His light we find our help because His light is like the morning and;

THE MORNING DISPELLS DARKNESS: When God visits, He banishes the darkness. Darkness is more than physical, in a spiritual sense we can be in the darkness of ignorance. In these times, we lack understanding of God’s truth and so we go about life doing things our way and trusting in our abilities. God removes this spiritual ignorance with the light of His Word.

Remember when Peter stated that he would never deny the Lord even though all the others may do so. Peter failed to consider that his true strength was in God. We learn later that he denied the Lord on three occasions. When we find ourselves in a place where we are depending on what we can do instead of asking God to give us His strength we will be just as capable as Peter to stumble in our relationship with the Lord. When we enter into this circumstance of our life may we remember that our day may be cloudy, it may seem dark outside, but the Son of righteousness still shines and the night will turn to day. Peter went out, wept bitterly, and was restored. He wrote his two epistles to help strengthen the brethren when we find ourselves in similar situations or other troubling moments of life. It may be dark now but mornings coming.

THE MORNING BRINGS HOPE: Malachi 4:2 tells us, “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; ” The Lord will rise like the sun and bring us hope of the greater glory yet to come. The morning brought us this Hope in the little town of Bethlehem years ago. His arrival was proclaimed to shepherds on a Judean hillside. As the Son continued to rise hope was given to many along the journey, Matt. 11:5, “The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.”

There is no greater hope than to have the gospel message preached and then to receive that message and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Son continues to rise and hope continues to grow in the hearts of all who believe. Hope for that better eternal day that is to come. Jesus is still working, still healing, still helping and even though times may be hard there is hope, Psalm 30:5, “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” May we be like the birds of the morning who sing with hearts full of joy when the morning breaks forth from the darkness of night and we again hope in the wonder of a new day.

THE MORNING BRINGS PEACE: Battle wearied soldiers often await the dawning of a new day when the battle has been extremely difficult. On just such an occasion in 1814, the British were holding Francis Scott Key on a truce ship. Fort McHenry was bombarded for 25 hours under heavy rains. When the morning came, F Scott Key was able to see the American flag still flying above the fort and he knew that they had not surrendered. This gave him assurance that peace would come to the land of the free and home of the brave. It was during this battle that he penned the words to “The Star Spangled Banner.”

As Christians, we are in a great spiritual battle with a foe that the Bible identifies as, “the rulers of darkness.” Our foe is crafty and deceitful but our Captain, the Lord, has already won the victory and we can look with our spiritual eyes and see His banner of love waving in the breeze from Heavens shores. So look up weary Christian, Mornings Coming. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
