Obituary: Mary Boggs Gregson

Mary Boggs Gregson, 92, of Hamlet, N.C., died peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 19, 2014 at Scotia Village in Laurinburg.

Born in Quincy, Ill., on Oct. 29, 1922, she is predeceased by her parents Christopher H. and Evelyn F. Boggs and her beloved husband of 59 years, Arthur Knott “A.K.” Gregson.

After graduating from Quincy College and the University of Illinois with a B.A. in English, Mary and her family moved to San Diego, Calif.  There she met and married A.K., a handsome sailor.  They moved to Hamlet where they raised their family.

Mary was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Hamlet for 65 years, serving as a deacon, elder, Sunday school and circle teacher.  The Mary Gregson Circle was named in her honor.

In addition to her love of church and family, Mary was known for her sweet disposition, her love of all things blue, her angel and turtle collections, and her ability to write poetry for any and all occasions.

Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving children, daughter Meg (Steve) Inman of Fayetteville, sons Glenn (Jan) Gregson of Helena, Mont., and John (Patsy) Gregson of Goldsboro; grandchildren Brad (Jana) Inman, Scott Inman, Rian (Wes) Oliver, Tyler Gregson, McGraw (Pat) Donovan, Ginger (Bradlee) Clark, Kenny (Amanda) Gregson; and 10 great-grandchildren.

There will be a visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday Dec. 22 in the Fellowship Hall with funeral following at the church at 2 p.m.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her final years, especially those at Scotia Village. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to First Presbyterian Church, 200 Rice Street, Hamlet, NC 28345.
