Club makes big changes after Week 3 FDL
Shreve becomes club ace leader
* Fall Doubles League cancelled, new singles league to begin Nov. 12

Colby Mallery
FROSTBURG — It was, for only the second time in Allegany County Disc Golf Club history, worst shot format for Week 3 Fall Doubles League.
For the first time, though, both players had to make the putt to finish a basket.
That made the 18th and final hole that much more exciting when not only Colby Mallery, but also teammate Bill Shreve, made one medium-sized throw-in on the 18th and final basket — or one leap of a putt some 50 feet or more away from the pin — that forged a tie with David Warder and Josiah Spradlin on Sunday, Nov. 5 at Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course in Frostburg.
Shreve, 47, of Cumberland, and Mallery, 19, of Mount Savage, finished with a one under par 53. Their score was equalled only by Frostburg residents David Warder, 32, and Josiah Spradlin, 14.
Shreve carded an ace for his team while he and Mallery finished with five birdies, including three of their final four (their card finished on No. 2 on the second loop) to complete the comeback. Warder and Spradlin, meanwhile, finished with a field-best six birdies.
The duo of Frostburg residents Sam Wolodkin, 21, and Brian Padovini, 43, finished third (59), while the team of Scott Mallery, 55, of Mount Savage, and Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, took fourth with a 63. Frostburg brothers Noah Spradlin, 24, and Luke Spradlin-Vogelsang, 12, placed fifth (72). Only Team Mallery-Spradlin failed to register at least one birdie during the round. Wolodkin played approximately half the round solo, as Padovini left the field of play before the completion of the 11th basket (No. 4 the second time around).
Even with a cap of two consecutive drives per player, per team, there seemed to be a general consensus that players did not like the Worst Shot format — especially with the condition of both players having to make the putt. However, absent that condition, the round would not have ended in such an exciting fashion when both Mallery, then Shreve, made Circle 2 putts from somewhere around the middle of the fairway on No. 2 (their team’s 18th basket).

Bill Shreve
Shreve’s ace on No. 2 — his card’s ninth hole, as the group started on No. 3 — was the 15th in club history and Shreve’s fifth, breaking the tie with Kevin Spradlin (four) for the most club aces. An ace was an exception to the “worst shot” format.
Shreve’s ace also is the first in club doubles league history, dating back to October 2022. Shreve will receive the entire $205 ace pot.
The 15 aces have been thrown on four courses, led by Hoffman Park (9), Mile Lane (3), The Glades (2) and Ditto Farms (1).
Notes
Due to player behavior, the Fall Doubles League was cancelled after Week 3. The new Fall League (singles format) will begin Nov. 12 and include six weeks of play. Effective immediately, all club league play will become money-free — no registration fees, no ace pots, no cash payouts. Players will still compete for club monthly and yearly awards. In addition, each player receives one chance for each of the six weeks played in the Fall League (singles format) into the drawing for a free entry into the club’s March tournament, in addition to each chance earned by participation in the each of the three weeks of the now-defunct Fall Doubles League.
