FROSTBURG — A record 26 players completed 65 rounds of disc golf during Week 6 of Summer Flex League between July 28 and July 31 at Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course in Frostburg.

Six players — Bill Shreve, Sam Wolodkin, Tim Farris, Scott Mallery, Keith Raynor and Ethan Shreve — went bogey-free in their best rounds, and two others (Devon Spiker and Kevin Spradlin) finished their best rounds with only one bogey each. Raynor and Shreve threw the only two aces over the weekend. It happened on the same round, as Raynor and Shreve are frequent playing partners. Raynor scored a hole-in-one on No. 3, while Shreve did it on No. 18.

Sam Wolodkin

There have now been 12 aces thrown in club history; seven of them have been thrown at Hoffman Park since the first public disc golf course in Allegany County opened for play on May 14. Shreve’s effort on the last hole during a round over the weekend was his third club ace, tying Spradlin for the most with three apiece. It was Raynor’s first club ace.

More on aces: In Week 2, 25 players completed 76 rounds and the field produced three aces (one ace for every 456 holes thrown). This week, 26 players completed 65 rounds with two aces, or one ace for every 585 holes thrown.

The 26-player field is the most in club history, surpassing the turnout of 25 players in Week 2 (also at Hoffman Park DGC).

Men’s Advanced Division: Shreve pulls even with Wolodkin

It took nearly until sunset, but Bill Shreve managed to pull even with Sam Wolodkin, as both tied the club course record of 43 (11 under par) at Hoffman Park DGC to lead the Men’s Advanced Division. Both Shreve, 47, of Cumberland, and Wolodkin, 21, of Frostburg, tallied a field-leading 11 birdies. At one point, Wolodin had seven straight birdies (Shreve had five consecutive birdies). Ethan von Hagel set the club course record of 43 in Week 2 SFL action.

Scott Mallery, 55, of Mount Savage, placed third with a 45. Mallery finished with nine birdies while good-to-be-back-on-the-course Devon Spiker, 19, of Frostburg, placed fourth with a 47. The weekend was Spiker’s first time playing at Hoffman Park. Colby Mallery, 20, of Mount Savage, rounded out the top five with a 48. Ken Pellini, 62, of Cumberland, placed sixth with a 49.

With the shared win, Wolodkin moves into solo first place in the division standings with 28 points, followed by Mallery and Shreve (26 apiece). Colby Mallery is fourth (20). He’s missed two of the first six weeks but has pledged to not miss any more SFL competition.

Women’s Division: S. Farris wins (again)

Shania Farris, 26, of Wiley Ford, W.Va., won the Women’s Division for the sixth consecutive week with a two under par 52. She also led the division with five birdies.

Stephanie Spradlin, 43, of Frostburg, placed second with a 61. Albina Stiffler, 23, of Cumberland, earned her second straight podium finish with a 68 while Ashleigh Hollingsworth, 34, of Frostburg, rounded out the four-player field with an 88.

Bill Shreve

Farris has a dominant lead over all division competitors with 39 points in the season standings. Spradlin is second with 25, followed by Mallery with 22. Stiffler and Courtney Yaeger are tied for fourth (8) and Ashleigh Hollingsworth played her second week to earn two more points (5 total).

Boys’ Division: J. Spradlin wins (again)

Josiah Spradllin’s score of four under par 50 was good for 12th place among 26 competitors — beating out seven Men’s Rec Division competitors. The mark was Spradlin’s best by two strokes. His previous best of 52 was set on July 20. The 13-year-old Frostburg resident’s resurgence (and consistent reappearance) in disc golf coincides with the baseball offseason. Normally he’d still be on the diamond this time of year, but fall ball rules changed that made players his age ineligible.

Luke Spradlin-Vogelsang, 10, of Frostburg, placed second with a 70 while Liam Hutter, newly 13, of Frostburg, finished with a 79.

Spradlin has an eight-point lead over Spradlin-Vogelsang in his division, 36 points to 28. Evan Padovini, 11, of Frostburg, is third (23) followed by Liam Hutter (15) in fourth.

Men’s Rec Division: T. Farris, Raynor lead (again)

Tim Farris threw so well on Friday morning that his lone round of the weekend stood the challenge of most every competitor — and all within the Men’s Rec Division — as he posted a 10 under par 44, one shy of the club course record. Farris also led his division in birdies (10). Keith Raynor, 47, of Vale Summit, placed second with a 46 and Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, took third (47).

The Men’s Rec Division once again proved to be the most popular, this time with 12 of the 26 players (46 percent) in the field. Ethan Shreve, 18, of Cumberland, threw a personal best 48 to earn a fourth-place finish. Brian Padovini, 42, of Frostburg, matched his personal best with a 49 to round out the top five.

Nathan Stiffler, 22, of Cumberland, played his second straight week in the SFL and placed sixth. Noah Spradlin, 24, of Frostburg, and Rick Perkins, 66, of Cumberland, tied for seventh (58) while David Lick, 34, of Cumberland, tied with Ray “Hoss” Hollingsworth, 40, of Frostburg (60 apiece). Sam Lick, 30, was one stroke back (61) while the club’s newest — and 100th — member, Nick Barbeau, 29, of Cumberland, rounded out the division field with a 68.
