MOUNT SAVAGE — Ethan von Hagel threw for 11 birdies and an eagle en route to a 10 under par 64.
Unfortunately for him. Bill Shreve was one stroke better.

Scott Mallery, on the No. 12 short tee, threw an ace on No. 4 (short).
Shreve, 47, of Cumberland, tallied 13 birdies and carded a personal best 63 to lead the record field of 17 players on Saturday in Week 7 of Saturday Morning Tag League at Mile Lane Disc Golf in Mount Savage.
Von Hagel, 20, of Cumberland, needed the eagle on long No. 7 to secure second place, just ahead of a two-way tie for third in the form of Gordon Cox, 49, of Hagerstown, and Tim Farris, 27, of Wiley Ford, W.Va. Farris finished with 12 birdies and Cox had 11.
Course owner and league director Scott Mallery, 55, of Mount Savage, finished in solo fifth with a 67. His nine birdies, plus an ace from the short No. 4 tee on the front 12. It was the fifth ace in SMTL history — and the fifth this season. No one threw an ace during the 2022 SMTL campaign. Gordon Cox threw a hole-in-one from short No. 6 in Week 6, while Rick Perkins (short No. 10) and Keith Raynor (short No. 3) each carded an ace in Week 5 and Kevin Spradlin managed the first ace in SMTL in Week 2 (long No. 3).
Ethan Shreve, 20, of Cumberland, placed sixth with a 69 while Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, was one stroke back (70) in seventh. There was a logjam for eighth place. Four players — Frostburg residents Brian Padovini, 42, and Noah Spradlin, 24, along with Richard Smith, 50, of Hagerstown, and Tim Lick, 33, of Cumberland — each finished with a two under par 72. Padovini and Smith led the group with eight birdies each, while Spradlin had seven and Lick had five in his personal best on the 24-hole layout.
Week 8 action will be delayed. League play is generally on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. However, the third annual Summer Fling Doubles Tournament is set for Saturday, Aug. 26. That means Week 8 is scheduled for Sept. 9.
