MOUNT SAVAGE — Ten birdies helped Scott Mallery rebound from a fourth-place finish in Week 2 of Saturday Morning Tag League to the top of the standings in Week 3 on Saturday at Mile Lane Disc Golf Course in Mount Savage.
Mallery, 54, of Mount Savage, improved by two strokes on the front 12 from Week 2 and one on the back 12 to finish with a nine under par 65. He threw only one bogey on the day — from long No. 12, the 24th and final hole of his card.
Shania Farris, 26, of Wiley Ford, W.Va., finished with the second lowest score with a 67. League rules permit female and youth players to play all 24 holes from the short tees; the rest of the field on Saturday played 12 holes from the short tees and 12 holes from the long tees in the “Tournament” layout.
Newly minted 21-year-old Sam Wolodkin, of Frostburg, placed third with a 68. Tim Farris, 26, of Wiley Ford, was fourth with a 69 and Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, finished fifth with a 71.
Noah Spradlin, 23, of Frostburg, placed sixth with an even par 74 while Rick Perkins, of Cumberland, rounded out the seven-player field with a 77. It was Perkins’ first time playing on the course in Mount Savage. Perkins managed par on nine of 12 (75 percent) by the midway point, and eight more times (66.7 percent) on the back nine. His card included two birdies and only five bogeys.
Week 4 is set for June 24. Tee time is 10 a.m. Play is open to the public. The cost is $5 per round, per player, with an additional, seasonal tag fee of $5.
