Summer Youth League to begin June 20

FROSTBURG — The Allegany County Disc Golf Club has scheduled the first annual Summer Youth League to be held over a five-week period on Tuesday evenings at Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course in Frostburg.

Week 1 will be on Tuesday, June 20, followed by Tuesday evening dates on June 27, July 4, July 11 and July 18. Tee time is 5:30 p.m. Cost is free and play is open to new and experienced players ages 8 to 17. Parents or guardians are encouraged to play alongside the kids on the same or sometimes separate cards.

The club is hoping to capitalize on a local surge in interest in the game after the mid-May opening of Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course, which is the first public disc golf course in Allegany County. That, combined with the club’s recently concluded six-day effort of teaching disc golf to Mount Savage Middle School students, could be the perfect recipe to bring out new players.

The club is also finalizing plans for three summer clinics. The first one is set to run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at the PVAA Sports Complex in Cresaptown. There is no cost.

Two other clinics will be scheduled for later in Summer 2023. There is no cost, and players of all ages can participate in one or more clinics.
