FROSTBURG — Round two went to Keith Raynor.

The 46-year-old Vale Summit man had a rough round Sunday night, the first organized Allegany County Disc Golf Club round at the newly opened Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course in Frostburg. On Monday, everything that had gone wrong the day before suddenly went right.

Raynor improved by four strokes on both the front and back nine sections from the night before en route to a three under par 51. He earned a one-stroke victory over Bill Shreve, 47, of Cumberland, and Noah Spradlin, 23, of Frostburg, who each tied for second with a 52. Sam Wolodkin, 20, of Frostburg, placed fourth with a 54. Tim Lick, 32, of Cumberland, earned a fifth-place finish in his first round with the club by carding a 55.

Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, placed sixth with a 56 while Ethan von Hagel, 20, of Cumberland, and Luke Spradlin-Vogelsang, 9, of Frostburg, rounded out the eight players who completed nine holes with a 57 and 62, respectively. Nicki Raynor, 46, of Vale Summit, played nine holes and sat in ninth place after the front nine, five strokes behind Spradlin-Vogelsang.

Raynor was one under par on the front nine, good for a tie for second place with Noah Spradlin and only one stroke behind Shreve. The one-stroke separation remained that way for the first four holes on the back nine, but Shreve bogeyed No. 14 while Raynor saved par. Two baskets later, Raynor’s second birdie on the back nine, and third overall, gave him a one-stroke lead with two to go that he would not relinquish.

Players will return to Hoffman Park on Tuesday night for the third club round. Play is free and open to all players regardless of experience. The format could be adjust for newer or younger players depending on individual capabilities. The club has discs on hand to borrow for the round.

Round notes

* Ethan von Hagel’s name came up in the random name generator and he took home a new Innova Shark disc with the custom Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course stamp.

* Luke Spradlin-Vogelang recorded his best round at Hoffman Park DGC with a 62 — and his lowest score over any 18 holes he’s played since starting to throw discs in September 2021. His previous best was a 63, thrown one night earlier at Hoffman Park DGC.

* Keith Raynor pulled double duty on Monday night. While on his way to winning the round, he also worked to clear much of the deadfall on the fairway on No. 7. Though the course is playable now, it will take quite a while for the course to be in shape the club wants it to be. Efforts like Keith sure do help. Thanks Keith!

* By completing his first round with the Allegany County Disc Golf Club (outside of the Fisher Cup), Tim Lick became the latest club member. Membership is free and good for life; all one has to do is complete a full organized (non-Fisher Cup) round with the club. Welcome to the club, Tim!

Round 2 for the Allegany County Disc Golf Club at Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course in Frostburg, Maryland. Its opening this week gives county residents their first public disc golf course in Allegany County.

Nicki Raynor, fresh off nine holes at The Glades at Mesach Run in Accident, throws from the No. 1 tee at Hoffman Park DGC.

Keith Raynor started Monday night’s round the same way he did Sunday night — by carding a par on No. 1. But he finished quite differently, eight strokes better and in first place instead of sixth.
