FROSTBURG — The Allegany County Disc Golf Club’s online campaign to raise funds in support of the first public disc golf course in Allegany County has reached 70 percent of its $1,500 goal.

The GoFundMe campaign began on March 22 with the understanding that while no contribution is too small, one of $300 or more will qualify an individual, a family, a civic organization or local business to become one of nine hole sponsors at the Hoffman Park Ace Place Disc Golf Course. The course is located at Hoffman Park in Frostburg and is expected to be ready to play by the end of April.

Through Monday afternoon, the Allegany County Disc Golf Club’s GoFundMe campaign is at 70 percent of its $1,500 goal.

The City of Frostburg has agreed to pay $8,500, which will cover the cost of the Innova Ace Place package, which includes nine baskets, a course map, nine tee signs and eight “next tee” signs. The club, meanwhile, is footing the bill for concrete, tee sign posts and related equipment necessary to install the baskets, tee signs and kiosk, as well as a lost-and-found box.

The club is sponsoring hole No. 1, while the Lick brothers — David, Samuel and Timothy — scooped up the much-discussed No. 5 along the power line alley. Ken Pellini, a longtime disc golfer who is relocating this month to Cumberland from Georgia, has sponsored No. 4, and club member Noah Davis and his family has agreed to sponsor No. 9.

That means Nos. 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8 remain available. Hole sponsorships are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. At the time payment is received, a sponsor should reach out to the club by phone/text (301-338-4533) or email to specify which hole they want to sponsor. The contributor is responsible for providing artwork to the club that will go on the tee sign post.

The distances from tee to basket range from 125 feet to 225 feet, for a total of 1,454 feet over the nine-hole course and an average of 161.5 feet per hole.

The online campaign is not the only funding source the club has to support Hoffman Park Ace Place Disc Golf Course. The club collected  $631 during the 18-week doubles league season from October through February, plus another $290 from the tournament on March 4. The club believes raising funds through GoFundMe will help us reach the finish line to bring a top-notch nine-hole public disc golf course to Allegany County and the City of Frostburg.

One hundred percent of any funds at the goal amount received here will go towards the installation and maintenance of Hoffman Park Ace Place Disc Golf Course. Anything over that could go towards supporting the club’s many community outreach activities, including youth clinics, community festivals and more.
The Allegany County Disc Golf Club is a private organization which aspires to have its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status approved in 2023.

Contributions received through lunchtime Monday afternoon are reflected in this image. All contributors are shown, including hole sponsors.
