FROSTBURG — The Fall Youth League in 2022 went so well the Allegany County Disc Golf Club is bringing a Spring version to life in early 2023.

The Spring Youth League will begin April 6 at Mile Lane Disc Golf Course in Mount Savage. Tee time is 5 p.m. for the first two weeks.

Noah Davis, 8, of Frostburg, works on his forehand off the No. 1 tee at Mile Lane Disc Golf Course in Mount Savage.

Participation in the five-week league is free and open to players ages 8 to 17. Parents are encouraged to play with their kids.

Play will rotate between three courses: Mile Lane, Central in Cumberland and The Glades at Meshach Run in Accident. Tee time moves back one half hour to 5:30 p.m. in the final three weeks of the league in order to accommodate travel and work with extra daylight the time of year offers.

Players who don’t have their own discs are welcome to borrow from the club for the afternoon.

During play, athletes will be coached on throwing techniques, disc selection, playing formats, equipment and more. Players will get a taste of both singles and doubles competition over the five-week period.

In Fall 2022, five players were awarded a free MVP disc for perfect attendance: Luke Spradlin-Vogelsang, Noah Davis, Baylen Langan, Chance Troutman and Lily Lick. Lick, 9, of Cumberland, was also named the club’s Player of the Month for September. Lick was the only player — of any age — to improve on her average number of strokes per hole during league play.

For possible bonus play, a glow round will be planned on one or two dates immediately following league play. The glow round(s) would be open to players of all ages.

The end of Spring Youth League should segue smoothly into the independently operated Saturday Morning Tag League hosted by the Mallery family at Mile Lane Disc Golf in Mount Savage. That league is open to the public ($5 per round) and Spring Youth League players are invited to participate.
