FROSTBURG — Colby Mallery earned the Allegany County Disc Golf Club’s Player of the Month award for November 2022 after posting a stellar month of performances on the local disc golf scene, including:

* Two first-place finishes in Fall Doubles League
* Two third-place finishes in FDL
* Dominating the one-disc challenge at the Ace Race event hosted by Mile Lane Disc Golf
* Played in both glow rounds in the month

Colby Mallery set the standard on the local disc golf scene and earned the Allegany County Disc Golf Club’s Player of the Month for November 2022.

Mallery, 19, of Mount Savage, becomes the second Mallery to earn the monthly award since it was established in June of this year. In August, Mallery’s dad, Scott Mallery, earned the monthly recognition. The award is based on a mix of participation and performance within the designated time period.

The younger Mallery completes the first father-son duo to win the award. Colby chose to accept a gift certificate to Ryan’s Disc Golf Stop in Accident.

Runner-up: Noah Davis

Eight-year-old Noah Davis is a newcomer to the sport of disc golf. The Frostburg boy threw plastic for the first time during the Allegany County Disc Golf Club’s second Youth Clinic in early August. Since then, he hasn’t stopped throwing. He’s become a student of the sport, and has started working on a forehand, along with mixing in various shots along the way.

Tied for 3rd: Noah Spradlin and Keith Raynor

Veteran disc golfer Keith Raynor, 46, of Vale Summit, and newcomer Noah Spradlin, 23, of Frostburg, tied for third. Each player completed two rounds of Fall Doubles League during the month. Spradlin, who began playing in June, helped his team to forge a tie for second place in Week 3, and in Week 6 he and Scott Mallery finished second — by a single stroke — to Raynor and Bill Shreve. The week before, Raynor and Davis finished in a tie for third in a combined-divisions round.

The author apologizes for the brevity of this award announcement, which is shorter than the other Player of the Month stories. Illness and other life constraints play a big part. We’ll strive to do better for the December award-winner.
