Registration for the annual GAP Relay is now open.

A runner travels east towards Cumberland along the Great Allegheny Passage. To her left is the town of Mount Savage. Starting Oct. 14, GAP Relay participants will be traveling west from Cumberland to Pittsburgh.

The event is returning to its roots by starting in Cumberland at the intersection of the C&O Canal Towpath and the Great Allegheny Passage. The event, which attracted 31 finishing teams last year, is a 150-mile team event that will finish in Pittsburgh. It begins Oct. 14.

It took the winning team only 16 hours and 40 minutes to complete the trek on foot in 2021. This year, teams can be in the categories of all-female, all-male or “open,” to accommodate mixed-gender teams as well as non-binary athletes.
