CUMBERLAND — The 2nd annual A Mile In Their Shoes Color Run is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, in downtown Cumberland.

The run, which starts and finishes at Canal Place Plaza at the Western Maryland Railway Station, serves as the kickoff to Child Abuse Awareness Month and a fundraiser and awareness event for Jane’s Place Inc.

Registration is $30 per participant for the 5K (3.1-mile) distance and $15 for the 1-Mile run/walk.

Jane’s Place is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the trauma that child victims of abuse experience, and to preventing child victimization. Before the creation of Jane’s Place Child Advocacy Center in 2010, child and adolescent victims had to tell and retell their stories of physical and/or sexual abuse several times to multiple agencies. At Jane’s Place, the need for retellings, and the associated emotional trauma, is eliminated thanks to the use of state-of-the-art digital recording equipment in an interview room.

Now, children are interviewed and recorded once as part of the investigation process. In addition, Jane’s Place hosts a medical examination room and dedicated space for both individual and small-group therapy sessions — all in a safe, child-friendly environment in downtown Cumberland.

Individuals who want to be guaranteed a T-shirt should register no later than March 1.

For more information, call 301-722-0016.
