CUMBERLAND — The REVs posted their first shutout victory of the year, and only their second overall, as they beat the Rams 8-0 Tuesday night in U-12 Recreational indoor soccer at the Cumberland YMCA.
The REVs, coming off a 6-0 shutout loss two weeks ago, held a 3-0 lead at halftime. The home team notched three goals in the first half. The first game seven minutes into the 20-minute half. Four and one-half minutes later, the REVs took a 2-0 lead. The third goal was scored with only 37 seconds remaining before intermission.
The REVs dominated on offense much of the night and started the second half with intensity. The team scored at the 16:49 mark and upped their lead to 5-0 a mere 59 seconds later. The REVs increased their lead to 6-0 at the 11:44 mark.
The Rams, meanwhile, never could gain much offensive penetration. They managed only a handful of shots on goal the entire evening. Their best stretch of play was to keep the REVs off the board for nearly nine minutes before the REVs’ lead grew to 7-0 with 2:46 to play, and the team added the final goal with 1:33 to play.
The REVs improved to 2-3 in the nine-game season and next play at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 21 against the Frankfort Rebels.
