First-responders, including personnel with FirstHealth EMS, the Rockingham Fire Department and the Rockingham Police Department, responded at approximately 7:47 p.m. to the 300 block of Roberdel Road to a report of a rollover and pin-in.

Upon arrival, first-responders found a young woman trapped inside her burgundy Mazda3 four-door sedan. The vehicle had left the roadway in the 200 block of Roberdel Road, hit a mailbox, careened down an embankment, through a wall of trees and shrubs and an estimated 260 feet from the mailbox into a home on Surginor Road.

A neighbor said no one lived in the home, which appeared to suffer significant damage. Officials were in contact with the home’s owner.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut their way to free the driver, who appears in her late teens or early 20s. She was transported to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in a FirstHealth EMS ambulance.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
