ROCKINGHAM — Some of the fastest and smallest drag cars in the world return to Rockingham Dragway this weekend, June 26 to June 28, for the 8th annual International Model Drag Racing Association (IMDRA) East Coast Nationals.

The 1/10th scale vehicles require as much technology and fine-tuning as today’s Top Fuel Dragsters with clutch management, throttle curves, chassis balance, tire selection and preparation.

Although racing on a 132-foot course, the times are to some extent comparable. For instance, Tony Schumacher, this past weekend’s number-one qualifier in Top Fuel at the NHRA Summernationals, ran the first 60 feet in 0.845 seconds. Extreme Rail entrant Tony Rudis set a world record on the Rockingham Remote Control (RC) track in 2012 running the first 66 feet (6 feet further than Schumacher) in only 0.750 seconds. Rudis holds the World Record on the complete 132-foot track at 1.120 seconds, 121.7 miles per hour.

Over 100 competitors are expected for the three-day event from 15 states and Puerto Rico, competing in 12 classes. Nitro and Electric powered cars compete in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Mod and Brackets and more. The Rockingham Dragway R/C course holds eight IMDRA ET and MPH records.

Spectator admission is free and fans will find the competitors easily accessible. More information can be found at www.imdra.com or www.rockinghamdragway.com.
