ELLERBE — Members of the Ellerbe Town Council awarded a contract to Ellerbe Heating, Air-Conditioning and Plumbing to replace the 20-year-old heat pump inside the Rankin Museum.
Mayor Lee Berry said the town received two bids, with the second coming from Witherspoon Heating and Cooling in Rockingham. Witherspoon provided two new-pump quotes ranging between $5,465 and $5,863. The company also supplied a repair cost of $2,067.37, but Berry said town officials had decided not to invest any more money into the outdated unit.

A representative of Alpha Mu Chapter Alpha Pi Chi Sorority asked town officials during the public comment period on Monday about what input the public could have on issues or actions council members made during the rest of any given public meeting.
Berry said public input is always welcome.
“If we discuss something through the night, feel free to … get our attention,” Berry said, “and we’ll be glad to listen to whatever you have to say.”
Berry said that for the sake of brevity, comments might have to be limited to a few minutes.
