Pastor Hill: The giver of peace

Romans 15:33, “Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.”

How do we reach the place where the God of peace is with us?

One of the attributes we find in our God of peace is what He is paternally, namely, the Giver of peace to His children. Before the foundation of the world, God ordained that there should be mutual peace between Him and His people. Sometime after creation sin entered due to believing the deceit of Satan and the direct rebellion against the command of God. Peace was fractured, but God provided a way to give peace back to His people. A sacrifice was made, the peace offering was accepted.

How do we become participants in this blessing of peace when we are continually engaged in active hostility against God? By nature, we are strangers to God’s peace as is recorded in Isaiah 57:21, “There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.” How can there be peace when we openly rebel against the desires of God? Romans 3:17 says, “The way of peace have they not known.” Before we can be reconciled to God and enjoy His peace there are a few things we must do.

WE MUST CEASE OUR REBELLION against the God of Heaven. Proverbs 17:11, “An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.” An evil man is one who is separated from the love of God because of sin.

WE MUST THROW DOWN THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE. II Corinthians 10:4, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;” We can no longer use the carnal weapons of the man who fights his own battles and we must put on the armor of God as we walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5 identifies for us the attributes that are necessary when we lay our earthly weapons down.

WE MUST YIELD TO GOD’S RIGHTFUL AUTHORITY. Romans 6:13, “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” We must trust God in all our battles, trials, temptations, and testings as we “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” James 4:7.

As we begin this journey of the Christian faith, we are brought into His favor and the intolerable burden and guilt of sin is removed and we find peace and rest in His presence. Matthew 11:28-30, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

There is only one path to peace and that is through a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. As we serve Him and He favors us, we come to understand the meaning of this word peace. “The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).

God gives us peace when we trust in Him. Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Let’s see, god punishes all of mankind for the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden, then he get’s upset when people act out on their sin-full nature? Adam and Eve might have been responsible for their choices in the Garden but they are not responsible for all of the pain and evil that followed. That’s on god
