HAMLET, N.C. — Retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Vernon R. Jenks, 86, of Hamlet, died Thursday, June 25, 2015 at his home.
He was born May 25, 1929 in Xenia, Ohio, a son of the late Dean and Hazel Jenks.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars and after his military service he retired from K-Line Equipment.
He was preceded in death by one grandson Frankie Jenks and a sister Vera Land.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home, located at 341 Battley Dairy Road, Hamlet, prior to the service and other times.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 in the chapel of Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet with Rev. Mark Bryant and his son Dean Jenks officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park with full military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Johnson Jenks of Hamlet; Sons, Kenneth Jenks and wife Crystal of Rockingham, Gary Jenks and wife Rose of Rockingham, Vernon Jenks and wife Regina of Hamlet, Rodney Jenks and wife Sheila of Rockingham and Dean Jenks of Hamlet; 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; Brothers, Max Jenks and wife Daphne of Dayton, Ohio and Roger Jenks and wife Emma of Xenia, Ohio; Dog companions, Sweetie, Daisy and Rat.
