HAMLET, N.C. — Mr. Richard William Thomas, of Hamlet, passed away at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital surrounded by his family on June 25, 2015.
He was 87 years old.
Mr. Thomas was a graduate of the University of Florida and had a career in Dairy Science with Sealtest in Jacksonville, Fla., Buttercup in Hamlet, and owned Wilson Dairy Products in Lumberton.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Hamlet as a deacon and treasurer. He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Thomas loved his family, was an avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves, liked playing golf and enjoying traveling all of the continental United States with Barbara.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Myrtle Jones Thomas; and a brother, Charles Thomas.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Barbara; daughter, Becky Thomas Neal and husband Dr. Paul Neal of Southern Pines; son, Ricky Thomas of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Holly Neal of Charlotte, Master Sgt. Gray Neal of Navarre, Fla., David Neal of Boston, Mass., Alex Thomas of Waynesville and Nicholas Thomas of Waynesville; two great grandsons, Jonathan and Nathan Neal, both of Navarre, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday June 28 at First Baptist Church in Hamlet with Rev. Randy Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Mary Love Cemetery.
The family will have visitation at 2 p.m. one hour prior to the service at the church.
