A Rockingham woman has been accused of biting off her ex sister-in-law’s ear in a weekend assault.

Jana Murray Walker, who turns 35 this week and is employed as a nurse at a local hospital, faces two felony charges, including assault by strangulation and assault resulting in serious bodily injury in an altercation Friday with her sister. According to the warrant for her arrest, signed by Magistrate Holly C. Smith, Walker inflicted physical injury causing “contusions on both sides of the neck as well as fingernail scratches made by strangulation with her hands.”

Walker, according to the warrant, also bit off her sister’s right ear in the alleged assault that took place Friday evening at outside of a Murray Manor Lane home north of Rockingham.

According to a family member, the victim and her children were preparing to leave the premises and she wanted to get some thing out of the home. The family member said Walker wouldn’t allow that to happen and even took something from, or knocked something from, the sister’s hands. The victim then “snatched (Walker’s) glasses off her face, then Jana grabbed (the victim) by the throat and they were going at it.”

Walker was arrested Saturday afternoon by Richmond County sheriff’s deputies and released after posting a $20,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear on July 30 in Richmond County District Court. It was not immediately known if Walker had an attorney.
