ROCKINGHAM — Retired NFL cornerback Perry Williams will be the featured speaker at 10 a.m. Thursday at Leak Street Educational and Cultural Center.

Jackie McAuley said Williams was in Ellerbe for the recent opening of the Andre the Giant exhibit at the Rankin Museum of American Heritage when she asked if he’d be available to speak to the Summer Fun and Food Program participants.

After completing the curriculum in Richmond County Schools and later North Carolina State University, Williams was drafted in the seventh round of the 1983 NFL draft. He  logged 10 years of service in the NFL with the New York Giants – including Super Bowls in 1987 and 1992.
