HAMLET — Authorities are looking to the public to help identify the person or persons responsible for shooting a Richmond County water system water tank on Monday along Oak Ridge Church Road in Hamlet.
It appears there is one shot to the bottom of the tank. Authorities say the incident occurred between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Monday.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Richmond County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) that are responsible for the damage. The estimated damage value is $5,000.
“Anyone who’s willing to jeopardize our source of water that we are so blessed to have in our county doesn’t need to be on the streets,” said Chief Deputy Mark Gulledge in a news release. “We will use all of our resources available to handle this case.”
