Hamlet teen collecting items to help homeless children

Effort is part of 4-H Community Project

HAMLET — A Hamlet teen seeks the public’s help in a 4-H Community Project aimed at providing comfort to homeless children.

DeLani Reep, an eighth-grader at Hamlet Middle School, is collecting new and gently used blankets, stuffed animals and books as part of Operation Night Night, Sleep Tight.

“Everyone can agree that every baby and child deserves  home where thy are safe and nurtured,” Reep told The Pee Dee Post. “Unfortunately, many children in our very own county and state don’t have this … as a 4-H’er I can’t buy each family a house, but I can do something to at least bring a bit of comfort to homeless children.”

In seeking blankets, stuffed animals and books, “these items while seemingly small can offer a great deal of comfort to a baby or child who is homeless. They can ease the fear and anxiety a child feels when living in a new environment.”

Reep has established four drop-off locations between now through June 12. The next day, Reep leaves for the North Carolina 4-H Citizenship Focus three-day conference in Raleigh.

The drop-off locations are:

*Richmond County Cooperative Extension Office, 123 Caroline St. Rockingham

*The Berry Patch,  351 Cargo Road, Ellerbe

*The Grab Thrift Shop, 20 West Hamlet Ave., Hamlet

*Carla’s Country Day Care, 513 McDonald Ave., Hamlet

Please contact Reep at 910-995-2644 with questions.
