Capt. Taylor recognized for continuing education
HAMLET — Monday was a day of recognition for Hamlet Police Department personnel at City Hall.
Skyler Dover, of Laurinburg, was sworn in as the department’s newest officer. Dover graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Richmond Community College in October 2012. He was previously employed with the Wogram Police Department.
Chief Scott Waters also recognized Steven Taylor, recently elevated from sergeant to patrol captain, for receiving his Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Justice Academy. Taylor, promoted in February, is a career law enforcement officer and has spent the last 24 years with the city of Hamlet.
On April 1, Waters and City Clerk Tammy Kirkley swore in Marc Terry. Terry previously served as chief of the Richmond County Schools special police force before returning to the Hamlet PD.
Terry graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training from Montgomery Community College in 1992. He worked for the Hamlet PD for eight years before accepting a position with Richmond County Schools for the past 13-plus years.
