HAMLET — It was a night of smiles, dancing and joy last Friday as Community Homecare and Hospice (CHCH) hosted its annual Senior Prom with a Mardi Gras theme for all senior citizens at Cole Auditorium in Hamlet.
Patients from Fox Hollow and Kingswood in Pinehurst and Aberdeen, the Hermitage in Rockingham, and the Hamlet House in Hamlet were among those that attended the prom. Each year, Community Homecare and Hospice hosts this night-out to give senior citizens the opportunity to get out and enjoy themselves, to dress-up, dance, and to feel young at heart again. They even crowned three Prom King’s and Queen’s voted by third-party attendees, who shared the “Throne” as the night progressed.
Community Homecare and Hospice aims to provide compassionate support and care to patients and their families as their life’s journey nears completion. CHCH turned to the community to ask for support in hosting the event and received an overwhelming outpouring of donations. Among those who supported were What’s the Occassion, who donated decorations, and Rocking Trends who donated dresses to those who attended.

Additionally, IGA donated sodas, Bojangles donated Bo Berry biscuits, all three Food Lions in the county donated gift cards, Food King donated bottles of water, and Biscuitville donated sausage balls. Cake Artist and photographer Nichola Leviner of Anson County donated a custom Mardi Gras themed artistry cake to the event, and provided free professional photography services. Special guests from the community included representatives from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Anson County Magistrate Joshua Leviner.
CHCH staff members plan to host this Senior Prom every year, and hope that they can make each year better than the last. “We want to thank everyone from our organization and community, as well as those from outside our community, who helped make this a possibility,” said Lisa Luckey, who coordinates the volunteers for CHCH. “Some people drove over four-hours just to help decorate, and we couldn’t do this without the donations from our local businesses and artists, or without the support of our local care facilities, and we want to thank each and every one of you for being a part of something so very special for people that are even more special.”
Community home care and hospice is the largest hospice provider in North Carolina. The Rockingham office serves the following counties Anson, Richmond, Scotland and Moore.
