Scholarships, iPad up for grabs at RCC Open House

HAMLET — Richmond Community College is enticing people to come out to its Open House tomorrow night, April 21, by raffling off one year of free college education.

“One lucky winner at tomorrow night’s Open House will walk away with a scholarship valued up to $1,000, which can be used toward tuition and books,” said Wylie Bell, assistant director of Marketing and Communications at RCC. “That is essentially a semester free at Richmond Community College.”

The college will also be raffling off a $500 scholarship, which will cover a student taking 6 hours at RCC for one semester.

“If someone wishes to use this scholarship money toward one of our Workforce & Economic Development courses, he or she can do that as well,” Bell said.

The scholarships will not expire for two years, according to Bell, and can be used by anyone in the winner’s immediate family.

About the Open House

The Open House begins at 5:30 p.m. on the main campus in Hamlet. People will have the opportunity to tour the campus and learn about the many programs and services the college has to offer throughout its two-county service area.

“We often have people say they hear we’re doing a lot of good things at the College, but they aren’t exactly sure what good things the College can do for them,” said RCC President Dr. Dale McInnis. “So as our spring semester is winding down and summer and fall semesters are on the horizon, we thought it would be a good opportunity to invite the community onto our main campus to show them exactly what all RCC has to offer. We pride ourselves in having courses available for anyone looking to improve their quality of life.”

The tour includes 25 stops around campus, including every state-of-the art lab in the newly renovated Forte Building, the substation used for the Electric Utility Substation and Relay Technology program, two nursing labs with simulation mannequin demonstrations, and a criminal investigations class. People will also learn about financial aid, transfer opportunities, tutoring and career counseling, continuing education classes and small business seminars.

Other prizes in the raffle

Besides academic scholarships, the college is raffling off an i-Pad, a pair of season tickets to the DeWitt Performing Arts Series, Workforce & Economic Development scholarships and merchandise from the RCC Bookstore. You must attend to be entered in the drawing.

“RCC has often been described as the best kept secret in Richmond and Scotland counties, but tomorrow night the college will open its doors to show off all the programs and services it has to offer,” McInnis said.
