PDP business cards double as trading cards

Staff report

ROCKINGHAM — The Pee Dee Post announced on Tuesday during a Richmond County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony and “Happy 1st Birthday” celebration that it has a new, second version of its business card available.

That’s not all, though. A limited number of this second design was ordered. The idea is to have the business cards become like trading cards — albeit it with no monetary value.

At top, Dr. Wendell Wells competes in one of five swimming events at FirstHealth Fitness and Health Center during the 25th annual Senior Games of Richmond County. At bottom, Patricia Clemmons prepares to take flight in the running long jump at Richmond Senior High School.

“Each new design will feature photos taken by PDP photographers on local assignments,” said Kevin Spradlin, PDP managing editor.

The move bucks the trend of a one-card-fits-all-needs approach many businesses tend to use.

The first version of PDP business cards featured a photo by local photographer Frankie Moree of a fantastic sunset over the Pee Dee River. On the back was a photo taken by Jimmy McDonald of Spradlin reporting on the annual Homecoming Parade in downtown Rockingham. The images were used with each photographer’s permission and every card gave credit to both photographers.

The second version is different. The individual photographer isn’t highlighted as anything but a PDP original. The focus instead is on the subjects within each image.

On the back is Patricia Clemmons, who earned 17 gold medals in track and field events, swimming, basketball shooting as well as pickle ball singles and doubles contests, all within the women’s 55 to 59 age division over the past two weeks in the 25th annual Senior Games of Richmond County

On the front is Dr. Wendell Wells, a local physician who earned nine gold medals at the county Games — five in swimming, and one each in golf, standing long jump, shot put and the 100-meter dash. Wells competed in the men’s 70 to 74 age bracket.

“There’s a limited supply of this new batch,” Spradlin said. “I have no idea what the next order will be, but you can be sure it’ll include some great moments caught on camera by PDP photographers.”

Each order is capped at 500 cards. There will be no reorders of any design.
