Obituary: John Todd

John Vernon Todd, 85, of Rockingham, N.C., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 28, 2015.

Mr. Todd was born August 11, 1929 in Whiteville, N.C., a son of the late Fletcher and Ceda Mae Cannon Todd.

He was a faithful and dedicated member of Maple Street Free Will Baptist Churchwhere he had served as a deacon. He had retired from Solene Industrial Lubricatants.

obitIn addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melba Louise Spellman, grandson, Jonathan Michael Watson, stepsons, Thomas David Dixon, Jr. and Johnny Elbert Barker Jr. and a brother, Ed Todd.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Henry Todd of the home; children, Eva Mae Todd Norton of Rockingham, Johnny Lee Todd of Wilmington, Michael Clancy Todd of Kelly, N.C.,Tonia Dixon Watson of Rockingham, Jolene Barker Beaty of Matthews, Debra Barker Orr of Hamlet; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and brother, Ernest Todd of Rockingham.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Maple Street Free Will Baptist Church with Revs. Darwin Cook,  Mike Rankin, Robby Caulder and David Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery.

The family will see friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Maple Street Free Will Baptist Church and at other times at the home.

Carter Funeral Home of Rockingham is assisting the Todd family.
