LEDBETTER — Volunteers with Northside and Ellerbe fire departments responded to a mobile home fire Thursday night in the Ledbetter community.

This is what firefighters from Northside and Ellerbe saw as they approached arrived in the 800 block of Ledbetter Road.
Units from both volunteer companies were on their way back to their respective stations from a house fire that wasn’t on Sarah’s Lane near Roberdel when Richmond County emergency dispatchers paged out both companies at 8:36 p.m. to a home in the 800 block of Ledbetter Road near Graham Bridge Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw that the home was fully engulfed in flames. It was believed that lightning had struck the home and ignited the blaze.
Willie Cameron, 24, watched as firefighters try to save as much of the home he grew up in as possible. He lamented the loss of all his personal belongings — the home was destroyed — and noted he did not have insurance. He did, however, say that he had a place to stay with nearby family on the same sandy lane.
Personnel from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Pee Dee Electric also responded. All firefighting units cleared the scene by 10:23 p.m.
