ROCKINGHAM — Betty McIntyre couldn’t contain her excitement.

Though looking at only one of her 10 photos entered in the Photography and Digital Medium exhibit inside the Calvin Little Room of the Thomas Leath Memorial Library in downtown Rockingham, the Cordova photographer was obviously looking at an image with a clear and deep connection.

It was a story she felt compelled to share.

“That’s my favorite place in the whole wide world,” McIntyre said while eyeing her exhibit called “In the Blue,” which features Cherry Grove Pier in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. against a deep blue sky.

The framed image was one of 43 exhibits entered by 11 local and regional photographers and artists for the second gallery exhibit, which opened with a friendly reception late Monday afternoon. The exhibit is sponsored by The Friends of the Leath Library. The two-hour reception offered light refreshments and live piano music played by Anne Thrower.

McIntyre said she snapped the photo in January during a solo excursion to the beach.

“That’s the best time to do pictures, all by myself,” McIntyre said. It’s like my therapy.”

McIntyre was one of several Richmond County Photography Group members to submit an entry. Other members of the group who offered one or more photos to display included Reginald W. Cason, Carolyn Ford and group leader Jimmy McDonald.
