Deputies seek second armed robbery suspect

EAST ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County Sheriff’s Office investigators have arrested one man and are seeking a second suspected wanted in connection with an alleged robbery and kidnapping incident in East Rockingham.

Investigators arrested Richard Thomas Evans, 17, of Midway Road, Rockingham, on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and assault by pointing a gun during an April 13 robbery of One Stop Convenience Store on Airport Road in East Rockingham.

The alleged incident was reported at approximately 12:31 a.m. Monday.

Evans was apprehended after investigators were able to get warrants for his arrest. He was arrested and placed in Richmond County Jail under a $50,000 secure bond.

The Sheriff’s Office is still searching for a second suspect that was with Evans during the robbery. Authorities initially said there were two suspects, one wearing a grey hoodie and the second was wearing a black hoodie. Both men allegedly displayed handguns during the robbery.

Video caught was is believed to be the vehicle the suspects used to leave the scene. The vehicle appears to be a white sport utility vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Suburban. Both suspects appear to be younger in age.
