After months of planning Scotland Health Care System and Marlboro County officials broke ground on Tuesday for the new Marlboro Medical Complex.

Approximately 80 community members, physicians and Scotland Health Care System staff members were in attendance at the 11 a.m. event.  The new complex site is 957 Cheraw St., next to the CareSouth facility.  Officials expect the complex to be completed in December of this year.

Scotland Health Care System has provided medical care to the Marlboro community for nearly 25 years. “Over time we’ve found that many like the services we provide,” states Scotland Health Care System’s President and CEO Greg Wood.  “For the last several years we’ve thought about relocating our primary care practice from its present location on 15-401Bypass to a larger facility. We’re excited to be moving forward with relocation and expansion plans for our primary care services and to add some specialty services, all in a new 9,000 square foot facility two doors away from Marlboro Ob/Gyn.”

Nena Menscer, executive director of Scotland Physicians Network, says of the new medical complex.  “This facility will provide access to expanded primary care services and specialty care in one central medical office building.  The complex will house laboratory and imaging services, as well as a community conference center.  We planned for handicapped parking, wider hallways for wheelchair access, increased privacy in the patient rooms and during check-in and checkout, and a separate well waiting room.”

Dr. David Howell and the staff of Scotland Health Care Center are excited about moving their practice from its current location on Highway 401 to the new facility on Cheraw St.
