HAMLET — There’s something for everyone.

That might be an oft-used phrase, but it’s something members of the Friends of the Hamlet Library believe is true when it comes to its annual book sale. The event began at 9 a.m. Friday and continues from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

There are books — a cap of $1 each for hardcovers — for cabinetmakers. Books cover the spectrum of topics from history to love, from baseball to civics.

As for Pat Newton, “I love mysteries.”

The Hamlet resident returned around noon on Friday with her daughter, Alison Navarro. It was Newton’s second trip to the library in the first three hours of the book sale.

Patrons are likely to be greeted by either Linda Bayless, librarian Carmella Johnson, Nina Winstead, Juanita Harris, Linda Martin, Betty Carter, Virginia Ormsby or Jane McCall — each happy to guide you to another printed adventure.

Along with books, small desserts are available for purchase as well as tickets to a raffle for a Mother’s Day basket with more than $300 in goods. The drawing for the basket will be held at noon on Friday, May 8.

Event organizers said the books come from “here, there and yonder” and are finally designated for sale at the annual book sale. Proceeds help fund the library’s summer reading program, among other possibilities. The sale raised about $1,300. Less than four hours into Friday’s sale, $296 had been collected.
