RCC, ITG Burlington team up for training

HAMLET — Richmond Community College has partnered with ITG Burlington to provide nearly $30,000 in customized training for the company’s employees.

Developed by RCC’s Director of Customized Training Lee Eller, the program coincides with a recent upgrade at ITG’s plant in Cordova that included the purchase of new weaving machines, which will increase production runs.

“Although you don’t hear much about it, we are seeing some resurgence in the textiles and manufacturing industries,” said ITG Plant Manager Ed Cox. “But the new jobs aren’t like those once held in the industry, as the new jobs require more technical knowledge.”

RCC President Dr. Dale McInnis said the College is proud to play a role in educating the workforce and helping to secure funding for this specialized training. The North Carolina Community College System, which has money budgeted for customized training for business and industry throughout the state, will pay for the $30,000 training program at ITG. RCC assisted ITG in securing those funds to advance the skills of its workforce.

“I believe the most important role of the college system is educating the community’s workforce, and it’s something we take very seriously at RCC,” McInnis said. “Anytime we can get state funds to assist our local industries, we are going to make it happen for the company and its employees.”

In 2014, Richmond Community College provided more than $125,000 of state-funded customized industrial training to 1,236 employees at 13 Richmond and Scotland County companies.
