Obituary: Libby Taylor

Sarah Elizabeth “Libby” Taylor, 79, of Rockingham, N.C., passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at Sandhills Regional Medical Center in Hamlet.

Mrs. Taylor was born March 24, 1935 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Milton Robert and Ruth Crouch Garris.

obitShe was a member of Roberdel United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and had retired from Richmond Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Mudd and Jean Griggs.

Surviving are her children, Diane Taylor of Rockingham, Jimmy Taylor Jr. of Asheville, Jerry Taylor Driggers of Wallace, S.C., Sara Taylor Lewis of Cheraw, S.C., Donald Taylor of Rockingham, Janet Taylor Norton of Aynor, S.C., and Brenda Taylor Bennett of Bennettsville, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Abner Garris of Ellerbe, Jerry Garris of Rockingham, Bob Garris of Ft. Worth, Texas and sisters, Nancy White of Rockingham and Rae Morgan of Hamlet.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Roberdel United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Carpenter officiating. Inurnment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Friday at the church and at other times at the home.

Carter Funeral Home of Rockingham is assisting the Taylor family.
