EAST ROCKINGHAM — Members of the East Rockingham Volunteer Fire Department joined with the Sandhills Boys Cooking Team early Tuesday morning to prepare for the barbecue sale later this week.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, the public can stop by the fire department, located at 487 Airport Road, and purchase barbecue by the pound — $7 per pound. The money is used to help the all-volunteer fire department to pay for necessary upgrades around the fire station, to help firemen and other emergency personnel through hardships and to help students go to college through a scholarship.
Money also is donated to the community to help with youth ball teams.
Cooking began Tuesday shortly after 8 a.m. and volunteers expected to be on site until 5 p.m. or so.
