Courses intended to train ‘Powder Puff” mechanics

HAMLET — Women interested in becoming “shade tree” mechanics and learning more about maintaining their automobiles can take part in a class designed strictly for females. “Powder Puff” Mechanics is being offered next month through Richmond Community College’s Workforce and Economic Development division.

RCCThe mechanics course is a four-week class that will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays from April 13 through May 4 at Clewis’ Service Center, 400 Main St., Hamlet. Cost to attend is $50 and participants are responsible for bringing their own vehicles and supplies for class.

The topics that will be covered during the session will include changing and rotating tires, monitoring tire pressure, changing the oil, replacing wipers, checking fluids and replacing brake discs. Discussion will also be held about maintenance schedules, weather effects and important information found in vehicle owner’s manuals.
