Shooting suspect drives to police station

CARTHAGE — A 52-year-old woman has been arrested in the Friday shooting of a man in a Yadkin Road home near Southern Pines.

A Moore County Sheriff’s Office news release said Susan Slacum Barrett has been charged with assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury. Daniel McCollum, 48, was airlifted what were reported to be non life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff Neil Godfrey stated that his office received a call at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Friday in reference to a shooting incident at 830 Yadkin Road in Southern Pines. In addition, personnel from Moore County EMS, the Southern Pines Police Department and Southern Pines Fire and Rescue responded to the emergency call for help. By the time authorities arrived, the shooter had area had already left the scene of the crime. However, Godfrey said Barrett drop to the Southern Pines Police Department.

Barrett is currently being held in the Moore County Detention Center without bond.

Godfrey declined to comment on the motive for the shooting.
