Staff report

An undefeated record goes a long way in making sure a team has earned the top seed.

Both the boys and girls Rockingham teams, which each finished the regular season 10-0, will host first-round games on Monday as the Southeastern Middle School Conference

The No. 1 Rockets will host No. 8 Sycamore Lane at 4 p.m. in the girls matchup, followed by the boys, also against No. 8 Sycamore Lane.

Girls bracket

The top eight teams in the 11-team conference make the playoffs. Ties are decided by head-to-head match-ups. Seventh-seeded Rohanen travels to No. 2 West Hoke, No. 6 East Hoke will play at No. 3 Hamlet and No. 5 Sandy Grove will play at No. 4 Anson.

Boys bracket

Seventh-seeded Anson travels to No. 2 Sandy Grove, No. 6 Hamlet will go on the road to No. 3 East Hoke and No. 5 Carver will play at No. 4 West Hoke.

The tournament is scheduled to continue Feb. 5 with the championship contest on Feb. 9. The title game date is subject to change, however, depending on the outcome of the games and due to the statewide Beta Club convention that week in Greensboro.
