Obituary: Jack Presler

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Jack Lloyd Presler, 89, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 at FirstHHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 20, 1925 in Peachland, N.C., to the late Frank and Naomi Stegall Presler.

After graduation from Peachland High School, Jack served in the U.S. Army from October 1944 to December 1946. While in the Army, he received a Purple Heart. After his military service, he worked for 46 years for CSX Railroad, retiring in 1988.

He was a Master Mason and a longtime member of Hamlet Lodge Number 532 where he served as Master of the Lodge in 1972. Jack was a Shriner and a member of Oasis Temple. He served as an elder and a deacon in First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham (PCUSA)

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ila Mae Presler and Helen Presler Ingram; his nephew, Barry Ingram and two nieces, Peggy Presler and Robin Poythress.

He is survived by his brother, Calvin Presler (Demetra) of Rockingham; his two nieces, Betty Gunderson and Debra Clark (Rea): three step-children, Gene McLaurin (Donna), Mary McLaurin and Dan McLaurin (Lisa), 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Watson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Rockingham with Rev. Dwight Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in the Peachland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
