ELLERBE — Even when Spring Hill jumped out to an eight-point lead to start the game, the Wildcats had hope.

Screen Shot 2015-01-27 at 9.22.52 PMA layup from Detroy Bennett in the final 72 seconds of the first quarter, and then a putback 31 seconds later, cut the lead in half.

But the combination of Garrett McRae and Bruce Wall, though, was simply too much to overcome. The duo led the Spartans to their first win of the season with a 31-11 victory over host Ellerbe. The loss completed the Wildcats’ winless season through 10 tries. Spring Hill moved to 1-7.

The Spartans used a 19-2 run that started 39 seconds into the second quarter and lasted until 4:34 to go in the game. The lead increased from 8-4 to 15-4 at halftime and 27-6 after three quarters of play.

McRae finished with 12 points and Wall with 11. Bennett led Ellerbe with six points.
