Hilton is an eighth grade math teacher, Principal Jim Butler said through Brown, who “has become the teacher new teachers should aspire to be.”

Butler noted Hilton’s willingness to work outside her comfort zone and teach sixth grade math when there was a need.

“Many teachers would be hesitant to leave a comfortable situation,” Butler said in a statement read by Brown.

Smith, meanwhile, works in the school’s front office. She spent her first five years as the receptionist but when there came a need, Smith stepped in.

Both Hilton and Smith were given gift bags that contained goodies from a variety of program sponsors, including Maness Tire, Fatz Cafe, FirstHealth Center for Health and Fitness, Bojangles, Richmond Senior High School Raider Athletics, Highway 55 Burgers and Fries, Strikers Bowling Alley and Godfather’s Pizza.
