Hamlet police chief recognizes officers

HAMLET — Hamlet Police Chief Scott Waters recognized Tuesday night department staff who have been hired or promoted within.

Waters said some of the announcements should have been made some time ago, but Tuesday served as a catch-all.

Dustin Lee Trenton Morrison, of Rockingham, was sworn in on Dec. 31 as a patrol officer. Morrison also has experienced with Cordova Fire and Rescue.

* Robert McNeill was sworn in as a patrolman on Oct. 25. He is a military combat veteran, having served in Afghanistan.

* Matthew Lee, a Maxton native, was sworn in as a patrol officer on Aug. 16.

* Corey Adams was sworn in on Jan. 21, 2013. An Army veteran, Adams was a combat engineer working with secondary MOS of intelligence. He’s now a sergeant in the Army National Guard and serves as a School Resource Officer.

* Det. Lt. Heather Wyatt was promoted to her current position on Jan. 5, 2015. Wyatt graduated from Richmond Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement program and was voted by her peers as best overall cadet. Wyatt is also a graduate of University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Waters also presented Wyatt with her intermediate law enforcement certificate, which she had earned with continuing education in her field.

* Det. Sgt. Randy Douglas was promoted to his current position on Jan. 5. A Laurinburg native, he graduated Scotland High School in 1989 and worked with the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office from 2005 to 2014. He began working in Hamlet in July 2014.
