A bad trim?

HAMLET — Mayor Bill Bayless took a moment towards the end of Tuesday night’s public meeting to admonish Duke Energy about what he believes is a bad trim job by the utilities company.

Bayless said arborists with Duke Energy led city officials on a tour and described to them the work that was to be done. The work was to include the cutting of trees away from power lines. Each tree that would be cut, Bayless was told, stood in the right-of-way owned by the utility.

“It looks pretty bad,” Bayless said, nothing that “there’s really nothing we can do about it.”

After the meeting, Bayless said there were several examples but specifically mentioned the trees cut along Highway 177 South, or Marlboro Street, in front of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

He said Duke representatives told him the trees were cut back far enough but enough was left to keep them alive.

I realize that the tress have to be trimmed to avoid the power lines but I do know that they could have done a better job of it. The trees have been BUTCHERED and whoever did the cutting should be ashamed of the job. Maybe, just maybe if they did it more often, they could do a better job instead of waiting until it’s so cold outside, or rainy or just not in such a hurry. It’s a shame.
