ROCKINGHAM — Cameron Carraway had only four points throughout Rockingham’s home contest against Rohanen.

Turns out they were pretty important points.

Carraway’s 3-pointer midway through the third quarter lifted the Rockets to a 23-21 advantage — and the last lead change of the game. Rockingham held on to earn a 40-32 victory over the visiting Rebels. The Rockets improve to 2-0 with the win. The Rebels drop to 0-2.

Rockingham led 6-4 early — all six points scored by Malik Stanback — but Rohanen scored the game’s next eight points to take a 12-6 lead after the first quarter of play. Rebel point guard Malik Crowder scored five points during the stretch.

Baskets by Carraway, Damian Bruce and Jake Ranson pulled Rockingham to within 12-11 but Keith Brewington hit his only field goal of the game, a 3-pointer, to help Rohanen increase its lead. Crowder in the first of two free throws with 58 seconds left in the first half to put the Rebels’ lead at 16-13. Stanback answered with a bucket only 10 seconds later, but Crowder hit his second 3-pointer 10 seconds before intermission as Rohanen led 19-15 at halftime.

Rockingham used a strong third quarter — a 13-4 run in that six-minute period — to take a 28-23 lead, but that line is easier written than what the Rebels allowed it to be on the court.

Bobby Terry hit a jumper with four minutes and 28 seconds left in the third quarter to pull the Rockets within one point, a 19-18 deficit. Brewington came up big with a bucket 20 seconds later. Then D.J. Stephens’ field goal, followed by Carraway’s big tre, put Rockingham on top for good.

Stanback finished with 15 points for the Rockets while Terry added 11. Crowder led the Rebels with 22 points, including 7-for-8 shooting from the free throw line.
