ROCKINGHAM — At least one person is believed to have died from a gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon at a home south of Rockingham.
First-responders, including investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and personnel with FirstHealth EMS and Richmond County Rescue Squad, responded to a home at 127 Macs Lane. The call for help was reported at approximately 2:36 p.m.
The single-story brick home is located 1.4 miles west of Sandhill Road off Hamer Mill Road.
Investigators in what appeared to be white hazardous material protective suits, including masks, exited the home with multiple large brown bags.
Law enforcement response included at least two marked sheriff’s office vehicles and at least three unmarked vehicles.
The home is owned by Mabel McCain, who has a Washington D.C. address. The home was lived in by Pastor Christine McCain, of Ellerbe Grove Missionary Baptist Church, and her husband, Johnny McCain. The church is located about 1 mile from the home.
No further details were immediately available from those on the scene. An inquiry with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office wasn’t immediately returned.
