Grace Snead Riggan, 93, of Rockingham, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014 at Hamlet House in Hamlet.
Mrs. Riggan was born Sept. 21, 1921 in Scotland County. She was the daughter of the late Lyon and Bertha Jane Cameron Snead.
Following her mother’s death when Grace was 6 months old, she was raised by her Aunt Frances Snead. She had been the owner of My Fair Lady Beauty Shop, was a dispatcher for the Rockingham Police Department, a realtor, and was a salesperson for Tupperware and World Book Encyclopedia. She loved her grandchildren, cooking for her family and was a sweet angel on earth.
Preceding her in death were her first husband, J.B. Rawls; grandson, Joseph B. McGuire Jr., and siblings, Julia Chisholm, Louise Odom, Ruby Pate, Jesse Snead, Kate Deese, Bud Snead, Junior Snead, Marie Hayes and Bernice Snead.
Surviving are her husband, Carl J. Riggan Sr. of the home; daughter, Lenae R. Thompson (Terry) of Rockingham; son, Jack Riggan (Marla) of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; grandchildren, Ashley and Meagan McGuire, Jodi Jones (Doug) and Jayme Parmakian (Joe); brother, Alfred Snead (Verna) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Jim Nelson and Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery.
The family will see friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the Thompson home, 1813 Sandcrest Drive, Rockingham.
