Cheraw ChristmasFest, parade set for Dec. 13

CHERAW, S.C. — Enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas of pure holiday joy as the Town of Cheraw hosts its annual Cheraw ChristmasFest and Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The day’s activities begin with Breakfast with Santa at Fatz Café. The remaining activities will be held downtown at Centennial Park, complete with Santa Claus, the Snow Queen, the Freezing Princess and Kris the Ice Salesman.

A number of amusements will be available including Santa’s Ferris Wheel plus horseless carriage rides and a dazzling fireworks display following the parade. The full day’s schedule is listed below. During this event, the 100 block of Market Street (from Front Street to Second Street) will be closed to all vehicular traffic. Parking will be available along Second Street and in the two parking lots behind businesses in the 100 block of Market.

The holiday tradition, “Whoville Meets Cheraw-ville”, will be shown at the Theatre on the Green at 11:00 am. At noon, Santa will arrive at Centennial Park and a number of fun-filled activities are planned throughout the afternoon.

“We want to promote Cheraw as a great place for an old-fashioned Christmas and the ideal place to shop, eat, and enjoy the holiday season,” said Cheraw mayor Andy Ingram. “This family-friendly event has been planned for the community’s children and their families to enjoy. If you’re looking for a day of Christmas fun, please join us for our ChristmasFest and Christmas Parade.”

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Breakfast with Santa

8:00-10:00 am; Fatz Café, 973 Chesterfield Highway

Start the day off right with a breakfast of pancakes with Santa Claus. Tickets available at Fatz day of event. Cost: $5.

“Whoville Meets Cheraw-ville”

11:00 am-12:00 noon; Theatre on the Green

Dress like your favorite “Whoville” citizen or wear your pj’s, watch the classic cartoon plus enjoy a cookie & cocoa at River’s Edge. Admission: $5.

Reindeer Games

12:00 noon-5:00 pm; 100 block of Market Street

A $5 wristband allows repeat admittance to the Reindeer Games, a variety of carnival rides including Santa’s Ferris Wheel (one of those magical rides that kids, from one to 92, will enjoy) The Polar Express (all aboard for the North Pole!), Rudolph’s Turbo Tubs, Dasher’s Dashaway Slide, and Blitzen’s Bounce House.

Santa Claus is Coming To Town!

12:00 noon-5:00 pm; Centennial Park Gazebo

Holiday Bake Shoppe

12:00 noon-5:00 pm; Centennial Park

Decorate a cookie with sugar sprinkles for a lip-smacking good time. $1 each; adult must accompany child.

Village Square Entertainment

12:15 pm – 1:00 pm; Centennial Park

The Crystal McInnis Dance Companies kick off the celebration with a entertaining program featuring music from Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” to “Run, Run Rudolph”.

1:00 pm – 4:00 pm; Centennial Park

Come meet the The Snow Queen, The Freezing Princess, and The Ice Salesman for an entertaining afternoon of autographs and photo ops. You never know when this Freezing Trio of professional actors from Once Upon A Princess might break out in a Christmas carol or two, in celebration of the season.

4:00 pm – 4:30 pm; Centennial Park

Kelley’s Fine Arts Dance Group will put you in the Christmas spirit with their high energy, fun-filled holiday show.

ChristmasFest Roving Characters

12:00 noon-5:00 pm; 100 block of Market Street

The perfect photo opportunity with Olaf & friends.

Face Painting

12:00 noon-5:00 pm; 100 block of Market Street

Add some sparkle to the season. $3-$5.

Village Eatery

12:00 noon-6:30 pm; corner of Market & Second Streets

Hot dogs, hamburgers, fries & drinks will be offered throughout the day. And don’t forget to make room for a funnel cake!

Horseless Carriage Rides

12:00 noon-5:00 pm; Second Street

Zoom around town in this snazzy carriage for an afternoon you won’t forget. Cancelled in the event of rain.

Cheraw Christmas Parade & ChristmasFest Fireworks Show

5:30 pm; Second Street, beginning at Church Street and concluding at Kershaw Street

Downtown Cheraw will be filled with fun and excitement with this annual holiday tradition. The day’s activities will culminate with a dazzling fireworks display at the conclusion of the parade. Parade raindate: Monday, December 15 at 5:30 pm.
