ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Betty Gibson McLean, 81, of Rockingham, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 at her home.

She was born Aug. 10, 1933 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late William Robert and Vida Rushing Gibson.

Mrs. McLean was a member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church. She shared her Faith by serving the Lord — by playing piano at the church, and also singing as a member of the East Rockingham Men’s Chorus. Betty was previously a licensed beautician. She was then a homemaker deeply devoted to her Faith, her family, and a proud grandmother of five. Betty loved everyone she met. She was a 30-year breast cancer survivor and supporter of Relay for Life.

She was preceded in death by an infant son Michael Eugene McLean and her sister Inez Barrett.

Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Eugene L. McLean of the home; a daughter, Betty Gallagher and husband Ted of Simpsonville, Kent.; a son, John Robert McLean and wife Adelia of Central, S.C.; a sister, Mary Jane Ussery of Rockingham; grandchildren, Ben McLean of Charleston, S.C., Drew McLean and wife Mollie of Charleston, S.C., Zach Gallagher, Rachel Gallagher and Jamie Gallagher all of Simpsonville, Kent.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 26 at Beaverdam United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
